Q: I've found an image on the internet that I would like to use for my PRINT project. Is that OK?
A: Most likely the answer is no. WEB graphics are set at a much lower resolution than PRINT graphics. Even though it looks great on your monitor, it will not necessary look as great in printed form. In order for a 72dpi web image to be used in a 300dpi print image, it must be effectively 'stretched' out, which GREATLY reduces its quality. There ARE ways around this, if absolutely necessary, but they are very limited and do not always work. When in doubt about a particular image, feel free to
ASK US.
If you REALLY, REALLY want to use that piece of art, the best plan is contact the webmaster for the particular site and try to locate and negotiate with the art's creator for use of the image. If that is successful, you should then ask to be sent either a larger digital version of the art, or temporary use of the original piece of art itself.
Q: What is 'color separation' and why would I need it?
A: Color separation is a process needed for merchandise that would be screen-printed. (Most T-shirts, stickers, patches, and related items in which different colors are applied in ink or paint one color at a time.) What color separation does is separate EACH INDIVIDUAL COLOR of the whole image, so that each color of ink can be applied individually. For example, with a black, red, and blue image on a white t-shirt, a screen printer would first apply black ink, then red, and then blue, one at a time, to represent the whole 3-color image.
NOTE: Color separation, when applicable, is automatically included in all of our design service prices.
Q: What is a 'panel'?
A: A panel is each individual square section of a CD insert. Front
and back each contribute to the total number of panels, therefore panels always come 2 at a time.
Q: What is a 'traycard'?
A: A traycard is the piece in a CD Layout which most people refer to as the 'back cover'. It also contains the side spine labels of the CD, and is sometimes printed on both sides so that there is additional artwork underneath the inner CD holder.
